Spey/Switch Reels

Abel Spey Reel

To meet the demands of steelhead, salmon and other big water anglers using Spey techniques, we’ve come up with the definitive tool: the Abel Spey Reel. It has been engineered, machined and anodized meticulously as you would expect, but also created with a specific design and capacity aimed at long-rod anglers.

Featuring a fully enclosed frame and Abel’s time-tested adjustable pawl-click drag, the reel is styled in an “old school” fashion, reminiscent of classic European spey reels, but with a craftsmanship only possible in a made-in-the-USA version.

But more than just being a “good looker,” it’s the perfect instrument for Pacific Northwest steelheading or classic Atlantic salmon, with a drag capable of putting a big hurt on these hard-running fish.

Abel Switch Reel

The baby-brother to our Spey reel is the new Abel Switch reel, designed to be the best all-around tool for those switch-casters looking for the perfect reel for the job. Sized to fit the lighter spey and Skagit lines preferred on these versatile rods, the new Switch reel offers the right size, capacity, and super-strong drag Abel is renowned for. The pawl-click drag is full adjustable, surrounded by proven Abel corrosion-resistant anodized enclosed frame along with that sleek Abel made-in-the-USA feel.

DeYoung Brown Trout Flank

Some of our most popular fish graphic representations come from the genius of Montana artist Derek DeYoung.  In particular, his stunning, imaginative portrayals of brown, brook, cutthroat, and rainbow trout on Abel Reels are coveted by both collectors and anglers who want to fish something “different.”

Like all artists, Derek is compelled to find new ways to express himself.  He’s done countless representations of brownies, each another layer of his artistic onion. Derek’s latest – some say greatest – look at brown trout is now available on any size or model Abel Reel at an added surcharge of $200.

Whether you plan on using the new DeYoung/Abel collaboration on the business end of a flyrod or displaying it on your mantle, it will be a joy forever.

SureFire Tactical Flashlights

After introducing our angler’s flashlight, manufactured in conjunction with SureFire, we had numerous requests for something “just as good, just as bright, just as bullet proof, but a maybe a little smaller.”

Voila!  Again working with SureFire, we now have an ultra compact dual-output version that will still light your way home or help you tie on a hex in the dark, making it the perfect addition to your vest.

It features a virtually indestructible power-regulated LED emitter and a precision Total Internal Reflection lens. The tailcap switch lets you activate the flashlight and select an output level: press or click for an 110-lumen high beam – four times the light of a big two-D-cell flashlight; click off and press or click again for a 5-lumen ultra long-runtime low beam that's perfect for reading a map or navigating in the dark.

The Abel Compact produces useful light levels for 37 hours and includes a high-energy 123A battery with 10-year shelf life.

Available in blueIII, red and olive solid colors ($225) or in brown trout fish graphic ($275).
