With Abel's unique InterchangeABELity of spools and frames, it substantially increases your options. InterchangeABELity means spools from the Big Game Series fitting into the frames of Large Arbor Super Series and vice versa. Abel Arm

Every decade or so something comes along that makes you want to smack your forehead and ask, Why didn’t I think of that? These are generally not complicated inventions, but something simple that anyone in his or her right mind should have conceived.

Such is the Abel Arm. It seems so obvious – now – that by hanging the reel below and slightly forward of the casting hand and moving the center of gravity away from the reel seat, the improved balance offers greater comfort and significantly less fatigue. If you suffer from tennis elbow (tendonitis) or arthritis, you will feel the difference when you use the arm.

ABEL DRAG SYSTEMS
We’ve proven our point!

Our drag systems have been in use for 20 years – putting the brakes on tuna, marlin, salmon, steelhead and everything that swims. Just check the number of World Records set with Abel Reels, the number of big game fly-fishers who won’t use anything else . . . and ask the lodge owners who choose Abel because of our reliability!

Abel drag systems are made from the finest Portuguese cork. The cork compresses and serves as a brake. We do not use materials used in airplane brakes because we’re not stopping airplanes! Our drag systems are second to none. Just service the cork occasionally with a little neat’s-foot oil . . . we have vintage reels at lodges and camps in Alaska, Lees Ferry, Mexico and Belize used as rentals and loaners that are 16 and 17 years old. That tells you something about proper maintenance.

Right- or Left-Hand Retrieve

Big Game Reels including Large Arbor Super Series models are user-convertible from right- to left-hand retrieve by following the enclosed instructions; or, your Authorized Abel Dealer will change it for you at the time of purchase.

Anti/Reverse models should be ordered left- or right-hand retrieve at the time of purchase.

Drag Conversion Instructions

TR/Series and Abel Creek reels are converted from left- to right-hand retrieve by
turning the reel over.

Laser Engraving

We now have the unique ability to photo engrave a fish on the frame of either a new or older Abel Reel. Nab the Fish of a Lifetime? We can add an engraved photo. All we need is your digital image. If you’re buying a new reel, simply tell the salesperson that you want to add the photo of a fish, your new grandchild . . . whatever. If you’d like the photo engraved on your trusty old Abel, ship it to us with a digital file and we’ll do the rest.
